"Trial by Fire"
Early on the morning of September 20th, residents of Keenan Avenue in Dayton were awoken by the sound of fire trucks racing to the address of Lewark Metal Spinning (LMS). During the night, a fire spontaneously erupted in the employee’s break room sending flames throughout the majority of the front offices. The Harrison Township Fire Department responded quickly extinguishing the fire that was only minutes away from spreading into the manufacturing bays.
LMS has been in business on Keenan Avenue for over seventeen years. During that time, the privately owned company has built a great relationship with the neighborhood, and with businesses internationally from Dayton to Nowra, Australia. LMS employs over 50 workers locally. This group of skilled laborers offers precise engineering, CNC spinning, hand-spinning, laser cutting, forming, polishing and tooling to support companies that need metal products in a myriad of industries from cookware to aerospace.
The last few days have been a tireless effort to get the company up and running again. With the help of many, LMS started full operations on Monday, September 26th. LMS would like to extend special thanks to the following people and companies who have extended a helping hand during this trial: Fire Chief Mark Lynch, Fire Inspector Kevin Monroe, Harrison Township fire crew, Chase Electric, DP&L, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Deputies, the LMS employees and many others. In the face of the economic trials that have plagued the Miami Valley over the past several years, Lewark Metal Spinning has been blessed with growth. New employment opportunities have been created each year for a community that needs positive news. Thank you to all who have helped to keep LMS on this track of growth and development for our community.
